He promised us an Uptempo tune and he delivered! Well, he not only delivered but now titled is exactly the way it is!

Guys, Tekno is a legend in my books and this song, just after delivering a conscious tune with “Woman”, is a tune definitely set to rock the summer.

UpTempo” is the name of the tune and Tekno really had to come all out on this as always and boyyyyyy, he killed it. I actually do love the song so much and what makes it better? He produced it!

Producer, singer, writer! The boy too much, abeg!

Take a listen!

Waje's "Red Velvet" Album Listening Party Was A Night Of Good Music, Heart Baring Convos & Sisterhood

The Nigerian music industry has its ups and down and while some people can withstand this rollercoaster journey, artistes like Waje seems to have enjoyed, or better still endured that ride longer than she would love to and is finally calling it to quit.

On Thursday 21st of March, a video was posted on the artiste’s official Youtube channel, a video of her which looks like she’s just getting out of bed with her hair undone and talking to her friends, Fatima and Tolani about how she is tired of investing so much in  her music and reaping nothing from it. The singer admitted that she has gotten to the point where she can no longer give to her music because it seems to be taking more from her than it is giving her and she feels it’s time to bow out.

Waje who is not presently signed to a label is handling but the responsibility of an artiste solely pushing her music and taking care of her daughter who is presently in the university talks about how the financial investments are already draining and she’s willing to try something else that she’s good at.

‘I know how much time and effort has gone into this particular album… I’m at that point where I’m just… maybe it is time to just bow out,”

”bowing out when the ovation is loudest.” ”I don tire,””I don’t have faith in this anymore… I am not willing to do this thing anymore… Do you know how much I have invested in this career thing?”

Expressing her understanding on the step she’s about to take, Waje revealed that she prefers to gracefully bow out than be categorized with artistes who have failed in their craft as a musician.

”I don’t want to be in the class of artists that have failed, I don’t want to be in that class. I just know that I have come to the point where I just don’t think its working for me anymore,”

Waje recently released an album, Red Velvet and also started a Media company with her industry friend, Omawumi and also recently produced a movie, She is…

And The Top 10 Finalists Are… | #MinoHolyTrinity Challenge | VOTE NOW!

It’s about time! Here are the 10 #MinoHolyTrinity finalists, as chosen by Sess and the NotJustOk Team.

At the start of every year, one of Nigeria’s foremost hiphop producers, Sess The PRBLM Kid, releases a free beat-tape. The 3rd edition, tagged “PRBLM Instumental Tape III” (#PIM3) came in a slightly different form this year as it was released along with the announcement of the #MinoHolyTrinity Challenge, a TopBoy, NotJustOk and Mino Music App initiative.

After accepting loads of entries over a span of 3 weeks, we’ve narrowed them down to just 10!

Here they are: Listen on Mino

How To Make Your Vote Count:

Like we said on the original post,

“Share your Mino link across your social media pages (Twitter, InstaGram, Facebook) to get as many people to Listen, Download AND Like your entry”.

We’re sticking with that method as a yardstick to determine which #MinoHolyTrinity wins!

#PS: Due to the potential of people possibly manipulating PLAYS and DOWNLOADS, we’ve decided to prioritize LIKES, since each person has to be a registered/logged-in Mino User to be able to “Like” a song, which counts as ONE vote.

The more “LIKES“, the higher your chance of winning.

Voting ends next Monday, April 1!

Congratulations to all 10 finalists! Good luck!

Self acclaimed Rap Messiah – Vic O, finally releases arguably the most anticipated song so far this year. The song is tagged “Bella” and it features his big time rival, the one and only “BangDaDaDang” crooner – Speed Darlington.

It is no news that they previously had a big feud and i’m glad they finally got it sorted out. It is very healthy to see collaborations like this and i hope it serves as a lesson to the biggest rivals in the Nigerian Music industry – Wizkid and Davido.

Waje Is Tired Of The Jungle That Is The Nigerian Music Industry And Can We Blame Her?

$
0
0

You could say that the Nigerian music industry is brutal and you still wouldn’t have wholly described the industry. It has no pity, treats no one special, and gives everyone a tough time only with the exception of people who have a large amount of money to spend.

To pursue a career as an artist in Nigeria is to have the fortitude and an unshakeable belief in the process. If not, you’ll cave into the pressure and crack under the intense and unfavorable conditions.

The Nigerian music industry has no particular manual that can serve as a guideline to help artists better understand it. It’s mostly a trial and error process, learning as you go and immediately applying any knowledge gleaned from the hardship. Because of a lack of proper structure, a lot of investment (time, effort, money) is required before a significant change can happen.

In 2007, Waje appeared in the music scene with a remix of P-Square’s Omoge Mi. An intriguing vocalist, who grew up in Edo state before moving to Lagos, God embellished the woman with the voice of an angel. It wouldn’t be outrageous to say Waje could wake an army of the dead with her sonorous voice. She was later featured on M.I’s One Naira which helped people to confirm that a beast on the mic has been awakened and is ready to take it all.

Waje

Waje was responsible for the legendary hook on arguably one of P-Square’s biggest songs Do Me. Although her voice was already a known phenomenon, Waje’s face was not really popular as at this time. She featured on Banky W’s Thief My Kele as well and did justice to it as usual.

After participating in a reality show for artists on the verge of breakthrough Advanced Warning, Waje began to penetrate into the music industry. Her vocal prowess smoothened the way for her and it’s no wonder that she opened Keri Hilson’s show in Calabar. Waje also collaborated with Dencia on True Love. In 2013, the superbly gifted singer released her debut studio album which was titled after her own name Waje.

The album featured eminent acts including Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, M.I, Sarkodie, and many others. It was critically-acclaimed and solidified Waje’s spot as one of the best female vocalists in Nigeria. Also pursuing a career as an actress on the side, Waje has come a long way in the entertainment industry. She is clearly one of the most talented voices that Nigeria is lucky to be blessed with.

Waje

In 2018, Waje released a single Oh My (produced by Johnny Drille). She had earlier announced that she would be dropping her second studio album Red Velvet, organizing an album listening party. The album was released on December 7, 2018, a 10-track project which featured Adekunle Gold and Johnny Drille. It appeared as though the album sparked no interest even though there have been cries from fans for the singer to drop an album.

As can be seen in a recent video that has since gone viral on social media, Waje expresses her pain and frustration of pursuing her passion as an artist. She laments, gets emotional as she explains to her friends/team members that she is tired and no longer wants to do music. She reveals that she still enjoys making music, but the investment required to promote the music – without enormous returns to offset it – is breaking her pockets. The low turnout of her album adds to her discouragement.

Waje explains that there are so many responsibilities placed in front of her (her daughter’s school fees being a major one) but virtually all her money goes into her music yet the returns are not substantial. Her hurt is palpable and watching her in the video can almost lead one to tears. She states that she is done and would like to try other things she’s good at. Her team members try to encourage her but she no longer has the desire to chase music any longer.

The video has been trending since yesterday as fans and social media users pass various comments. Different perspectives have been presented. Some fans believe that Waje is broke and can no longer afford to sustain her career as a musician. Others believe that it was merely a PR stunt to get people to show her pity and go listen to her music. There are some who are of the opinion that this is the hardship female artists have to go through in an industry that is dominated by men.

Is this a PR stunt? The possibility cannot be eliminated. It could have been. Is that the bone of contention? Definitely not. It matters less if it was a PR stunt or not. What matters, however, is that Waje is pointing out something that is undeniable – the Nigerian music industry is a jungle and it can be draining. Without the sheer availability of funds to throw around for publicity and promotion or financial backing from a major label, pursuing a career in music is like trying to break down a wall with your knuckles.

Waje

If Waje’s decision to quit music is genuine then it should be totally respected. However, if she would still like to give it a try, it’s important for her and team to note that talent is barely enough to fetch her the results she desires. We can blame the Nigerian audience for not paying enough attention to artists like Waje, but how far is that going to get anybody? We can’t possibly dictate what the audience wants. That’s not how the market works.

As long as Waje hopes to remain relevant in the Nigerian music industry, she has to play by the rules set by an industry that has no structure – pay heavily for promotion and try to appeal to the mainstream. Another alternative is to shift her focus fully to her niche and work on satisfying her fans and building a stronger brand. She can probably re-strategize and try to work her way up once again by expanding her horizon the way acts like Asa, Adekunle Gold have done.

Her talent is unquestionable and it is not impossible for her career to rise up to towering heights. Her bravery must be commended and we can sympathize with her by buying and streaming her album.

A song is nearly irrelevant if it has no music video to reinforce it in the minds of the audience. Music videos give us a visual representation of whatever the artist talked about on his or her song.

Recently, artists usually take to their YouTube pages to post their music videos, promoting it and garnering multiple streams.

There are Nigerian artists who have successfully gathered more than 70 million views on just one music video and YouTube has become an integral part of the promotional strategies most artists employ.

We have decided to curate a list of Nigerian songs that have the highest views on YouTube including;

Davido – Fall (119M views)

When Davido decided to focus fully on the Nigerian market, he would have never imagined that Fall would be as big as it currently is.

The music video for this song sits comfortably atop the list of most viewed Nigerian music videos with more than 110 million views.

Yemi Alade – Johnny (102M views)

Before Davido’s Fall took over to become the most watched Nigerian music video, Johnny was the leading music video.

This song broke boundaries for Yemi Alade and the video remains one of the most viewed music videos by a Nigerian female act. It currently has 102 million views.

I took you as my baby my honey

Gave you the money

Little did I know

I was a dummy

We taking trips to Miami

Thought it was only me but you f*cking a whole army

You messing with Joey

Now you f*cking Shatta
