Arsenal reportedly completes first signing of the June 2025 transfer window

Arsenal have reportedly completed their first signing of the June 2025 transfer window as the new season approaches.

Arsenal have reportedly reached a full verbal agreement to sign Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, marking the club’s first major signing of the new season.

Zubimendi who is regarded as one of La Liga’s most consistent deep-lying midfielders, has now given his approval to a long-term contract with the North London side.

The next step in the process is the formal activation of his €60 million release clause, which Arsenal are expected to trigger imminently. The 25-year-old has been on Mikel Arteta’s radar for several transfer windows, admired for his intelligence on the ball, defensive awareness, and composure under pressure.

With Thomas Partey’s future uncertain and Arsenal keen to bolster the spine of their team, Zubimendi’s addition is viewed as a strategic move to add depth and stability to the midfield.

Real Sociedad, while reluctant to lose one of their key players, are bound by the terms of the release clause once it is activated.

Zubimendi’s decision to make the move to the Premier League signals his ambition to take the next step in his career and compete at the highest level of European football ahead of the World Cup 2026.

Pending the final procedural steps, Martin Zubimendi is set to become Arsenal’s first signing of the 2025/2026 season, a clear statement of intent from the Gunners as they look to build on last season’s progress and challenge for major honours.

Manchester City Football Club have completed the signing of Rayan Cherki from Lyon on a long term deal.

Manchester City completed the signing of the 21-year-old attacking midfielder on it's official website on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Rayan Cherki signed a five-year deal, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2030.

The French international expressed his delight on joining Manchester City ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. He came off the bench on his debut for France in their Nations League semi-final against Spain and claimed both a goal and an assist as Les Bleus fought back from 5-1 down but lost 5-4.

He said,

"This is a dream for me, honestly, to be joining a club like Manchester City and have the opportunity to make the next step in my career here is something very, very special.
“I have worked so hard for this all my life. I love this sport, and I can’t wait to develop further here in Manchester with Pep and his backroom staff. Everyone knows how good City are they have been so successful for many years now. The responsibility to help the team continue winning is something I want to embrace. I would only leave Lyon for a project I really believe in and everything at City suggests I can develop my game and help the team be successful in the future."

Th defender is the third signing in two days, with coach Pep Guardiola having brought in Algeria left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves for £31m on Monday, followed by back-up goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea earlier on Tuesday.

Cherki made his senior debut for Lyon aged 16 in October 2019 and leaves the club having claimed 29 goals and 45 assists in 185 games.

Afrobeats singer Magixx has sparked conversation online with his recent comments about success, embarrassment and self-confidence.

Speaking during an interview on Hip TV’s Trending, the Mavin Records star shared his thoughts on what stops many people from achieving their dreams.

According to the Love Don’t Cost A Dime crooner, fear of embarrassment is one of the biggest obstacles holding people back. “If you’re afraid of embarrassment, you’ll never make it in life,” Magixx stated.

He also dismissed popular claims that countless talented individuals remain undiscovered on the streets. “People say talent is plenty outside. If it was, they would have seen the talent. A lot of people mismanaged their blessings,” he added.

Magixx further emphasized that those who rise to the top in any industry deserve their success, not by luck, but through consistency, effort, and resilience. “God doesn’t make mistakes. If someone is in that position, it’s because they earned it,” he said.

His remarks have since sparked debate on social media, with many agreeing that fear remains one of the biggest barriers to personal growth and achievement.

Olamide enlists Asake, Seyi Vibez, Young Jonn & Daecolm for '99'

Nigerian heavyweight Olamide has reunited with his protégé Asake, alongside Seyi Vibez, Young Jonn, and British singer Daecolm, for his exhilarating new single 99. The track serves as the third pre-release single from his upcoming self-titled 11th album, Olamide, scheduled for release on June 18, 2025, featuring 17 tracks, including prior hits such as Hello HabibiMetaverse, and Uptown Disco with Asake and Fireboy. Produced by Willis, 99 exhibits Olamide’s knack for uniting top talents from the music scene.

99 is an energetic summer anthem that fuses Olamide’s signature street rap with a vibrant mix of Afro-house and danceable rhythms, perfect for festival vibes. The song features a pulsating beat that allows each artist to shine. Asake brings his Afro-fusion flair, Seyi Vibez adds witty lyricism, Young Jonn contributes smooth hooks, and Daecolm infuses an international edge. Lyrics like “To the bank o / You know say money money make I dance o / I am feeling funky / Because I got a couple of milli lowkey” highlight a carefree, celebratory spirit, with the recurring “party like ’99” hook evoking nostalgia and fun. The track’s release has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising its all-star lineup and others feeling it doesn’t fully match the hype, though it has quickly climbed to No. 5 on Nigeria’s Apple Music Top Songs chart and is charting in 11 countries.

This collaboration marks a notable moment, especially given Asake’s departure from Olamide’s YBNL Nation to launch his own Giran Republic label in February 2025, alongside his single Why Love. Despite rumours of a rift, their reunion on 99 suggests a continued mutual respect. The official video is expected soon, adding to the anticipation for Olamidé, which also includes the recent Wizkid collaboration Kai. With over 600 million streams from his 2024 EP Ikigai, Olamide’s latest single reaffirms his status as a pivotal figure in Afrobeats, delivering a track poised to dominate the summer.

Leroy Sane reportedly agrees to leave Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich supporters might not see Leroy Sane play for them when the 2025/26 season begins in August.

Sky Germany confirmed that the midfielder has agreed on a deal to join Turkish side Galatasaray after failing to reach an agreement for increased wages with Bayern. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have each been linked with signing Sane, but Galatasaray seem to be the club with an advantage to complete the deal.

Sane scored 11 goals in just 17 starts in the Bundesliga last season as Bayern reclaimed the German title. He has won four Bundesliga titles with the club since arriving from Manchester City in 2020.

Galatasaray are looking to build a team that can compete in the UEFA Champions League. They are also looking at the possibility of bringing Victor Osimhen on a permanent deal after a successful loan move last season.

Osimhen spent last season on loan with the club and scored 37 goals in 41 games, a record for an overseas player in a Turkish season. The Nigerian has rejected a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and wants to remain in Europe. However, his €75m release clause at Napoli looks a huge deal for Galatasaray.

The chapter of Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix at Chelsea football club could be officially over before the start of the 2025/26 season.

Transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that both players will not be part of Chelsea's squad that will be travelling to the United States for the Club World Cup. According to him Chelsea are looking for a way to sell both players before the summer transfer window closes.

Joao Felix joined AC Milan on loan during the 2025 January transfer window while Raheem Sterling left for Arsenal earlier in the season. However, both players were not impressive for their respective clubs during their loan spells.

Joao Felix's number 14 jersey will be worn by Dario Essugo who was signed by the Blues this summer from Sporting for £18.8million, and will be part of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.

Notable names that have worn the jersey number in the past include Andre Schurrle, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Tiemoue Bakayoko. Academy graduates Fikayo Tomori and Trevoh Chalobah both carried the mantle in previous years.

Here's why Tems is one of Nigeria's most influential artists of this generation

It is evident to say that Tems has remained one of the most influential Nigerian artists of her generation.

In a male-dominated Afrobeats scene, Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has carved out a space uniquely her own.

From viral breakout singles to Grammy wins and high-profile international collaborations, the Lagos-born singer-songwriter has risen to become one of the defining voices of her generation.

As she marks her 30th birthday today, June 11, 2025, it’s the perfect time to reflect on why Tems continues to be one of the most influential Nigerian artists of her era and why her impact reaches far beyond just the music charts.

1. She redefined the sound of Afrobeats

While Afrobeats is typically known for its dance-ready, high-energy beats, Tems introduced a new dimension to the genre by infusing it with elements of alt-R&B, neo-soul, and mellow Afro-fusion. Tracks like Try Me, Damages, and Free Mind reimagined what Afrobeats could sound like. This proves that you don’t need a party anthem to make waves on the Nigerian or international charts.

2. Global collaborations that broke barriers

Tems is one of the few Nigerian artists whose collaborations have seamlessly crossed into global mainstream music. From Essence with Wizkid, which became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10, to features with Drake (Fountains), Future (Wait For U), and Beyoncé (Move), Tems positioned herself as a global force.

Her feature on Wait For U earned her a Grammy in 2023, marking a landmark moment for Nigerian alt-R&B and showing the world the depth of talent coming out of Africa.

3. An icon for female empowerment

In an industry often criticized for sidelining women, Tems has emerged as a figure of empowerment. Through her bold lyrics and authentic persona, she’s encouraged young African women to embrace their individuality and ambition.

She consistently advocates for creative independence and has openly spoken about the challenges female artists face in Nigeria, while setting an example of what’s possible when you stay true to your artistry.

4. Record-breaking achievements

Tems’ career is packed with remarkable achievements that have positioned her as a standout force in African music. She made history as the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy. With another in 2025, she is the only Nigerian artist with 2 Grammy Awards. Also, she became the first female Nigerian act to debut on the Billboard Hot 100. Along the way, she’s earned nominations from prestigious platforms like the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, and NAACP Image Awards.

Her feature on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack marked another milestone in her international rise. But beyond personal wins, these achievements reflect a growing global embrace of African music and a new era where diverse, authentic voices like Tems’ are being celebrated worldwide.

5. A sound that’s timeless, not trend-driven

While many artists chase viral hits and momentary trends, Tems has consistently stayed in her lane, curating a sound that’s introspective, soulful, and emotionally honest. This authenticity has built her a loyal, cult-like fan base who connect deeply with her music’s vulnerability and depth.

In a fast-paced industry, Tems’ refusal to compromise her sound for quick hits has made her an enduring figure in contemporary African music.

Lastly, as Tems steps into her 30s, she remains one of Nigeria’s most influential and respected artists. This is not just for her chart-topping songs but for how she’s redefined the possibilities for women and alt-sounding musicians in Afrobeats. Her impact is generational, her influence undeniable, and her best years are still ahead.
