Chelsea have completed their fourth player signing as the 2025 June transfer window intensifies ahead of the Club World Cup.

Chelsea have officially secured the signing of 19-year-old defender Mamadou Sarr from their sister club Strasbourg in a deal worth £12 million making him their fourth signing in the jUne 2025 transfer window ahead of the club world cup 2025.

The French youngster has committed to an eight-year contract and will be available for selection in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Chelsea will kick off their campaign against LAFC on 16 June, then face Brazil’s Flamengo on 20 June, before concluding the group stage with a match against Tunisian champions ES Tunis on 25 June.

Although the agreement for Sarr was reached back in January, both clubs waited until the summer transfer window to finalise the move. Sarr featured 28 times for Strasbourg across all competitions last season, helping the team finish seventh in Ligue 1 and secure a place in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.

This deal marks the first player transfer between Chelsea and Strasbourg since both clubs came under the BlueCo ownership group, led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Sarr becomes Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Liam Delap (£30m from Ipswich Town), Estevão (£29m from Palmeiras), and Dário Essugo (£18m from Sporting Lisbon).

Built to Last: How Hennessy Continues to influence and Shape culture in Nigeria

$

Some things may come and go, but others are made to last.

In a world that moves fast, where trends flicker like flashbulbs, and one viral moment can eclipse a legacy, there are only a few names that have stayed firmly in the picture. One of them is Hennessy. Not just as a drink of choice, but as a cultural cornerstone. For generations, Hennessy has meant something. Something aspirational. Something enduring. In Nigeria, that something is class, legacy, and cultural relevance—and in 2025, it’s clearer than ever: true greatness isn’t made for a night. It’s made for more.

Before we could even pronounce “cognac,” we knew what Hennessy meant. It was the bottle behind the velvet rope, perched on the “special tables,” poured only when the “big” uncles and aunties came out to play. The music knew it too. Olu Maintain’s iconic “Yahooze” anthem from 18 years ago included the now-historic line: “Hennessy for everybody eee.” It wasn’t just a drink; it was a declaration.

Fast-forward to today and Hennessy still lives in the lyrics. Bnxn and Ruger’s “Ilashe” made it clear that “Hennessy on the way” is still the ultimate signifier of celebration. In Adekunle Gold’s High, one of the most-played Nigerian songs of the last decade, he famously sang: “Hennessy 250, ko ma lo ni titi.” Translation? Hennessy isn’t just for the moment—it’s a permanent fixture.

From the streets of Surulere to luxury lounges in Ikoyi, one truth holds: when Hennessy is in the building, so is status.

But Hennessy hasn’t just sat pretty on the table. It’s danced in the club, performed on stage, dropped bars in cyphers, and now, painted courts and united communities. What makes the brand’s presence so unique is its deep cultural integration—one that isn’t surface-level or performative, but sincere and long-term.

Take Hennessy Artistry for instance—a platform that has, since 2009, amplified Nigeria’s rich musical soundscape. Everyone from Davido to Patoranking to Falz, MI to Olamide, has graced its stage. The annual Hennessy Artistry concerts are no longer just events, they’re milestones.

There’s also the VS Class, a rap battleground where underground talent meets industry heavyweight mentorship. You don’t get into the Nigerian rap scene without hearing about the Hennessy Cypher. Vector. Ladipoe. Blaqbonez. Legends. Gatekeepers. Collaborators. All powered by a cognac that understands that music is not just sound, it’s identity. All 2 million viewers of the 2024 Cypher—which is up on YouTube—will definitely agree.

In recent years, Hennessy has taken its cultural investment further—beyond the booth and into the basketball courts of Nigeria. As part of their global “In The Paint” initiative with the NBA, Hennessy is breathing life back into forgotten spaces and giving urban youth a canvas—both literally and metaphorically.

In Festac Town, they refurbished the Park 23 basketball court alongside renowned Nigerian graffiti artist Osa Seven—whose design blends tradition, identity, and raw street culture. This wasn’t just art for art’s sake. This was homecoming. This was legacy. As Osa Seven put it: “This is where I grew up. To come back here with Hennessy and give it new life? That’s everything.”

And it didn’t stop there. In 2023, they took on the Ikorodu Recreational Park, creating a state-of-the-art facility in collaboration with NBA Africa and LASPARK. In 2022, they built Africa’s first floating basketball court—yes, floating—beneath the Ikoyi Link Bridge.

Following two successful installations in Lagos, Hennessy brought this exciting experience to Port Harcourt on the 3rd of November 2024—tapping local artist Kingsley Archibong (Kaylion). These weren’t gimmicks. These were statements: We’re here. We’re investing. We care.

If you needed any more proof that Hennessy knows how to show up and show out, look no further than December 2024, when they partnered with UK-based collective Cultur FM for a three-day Lagos takeover. From a Surulere community engagement to a beach rave on Yolo Island, capped by an unforgettable finale at Landmark Center. The vibe was premium, the music was elite, and the energy was unmistakably Nigerian.

It wasn’t just a party—it was a celebration of community, creativity, and cultural connection. And at the centre of it all? Hennessy.

The Bottle That Became a Symbol

Hennessy in Nigeria isn’t just consumed—it’s displayed. It’s the bottle celebrities pose with in glossy photo shoots. It’s the drink clutched in music videos to signal affluence.

2Pac Shakur Holding a bottle of Hennessy
2Pac Shakur

In Old Nollywood, it was shorthand for success. In one iconic scene, Mercy Johnson breaks up with a boyfriend who “can’t afford Hennessy at the club.” That line? Instant classic. That moment? Culturally stamped. Even off-camera, the symbolism runs deep. You’ve already said everything you need to. Loudly.

So why has Hennessy endured? Why is it still on the lips of every hitmaker and in the hands of every boss? Because Hennessy didn’t just ride the wave, it helped create it. It didn’t just show up when it was convenient, it’s been here—decade after decade, verse after verse, party after party. Whether it's in music, fashion, art, sport, or social impact, Hennessy’s presence has always been premium and purposeful.

This isn’t nostalgia. This is now. It’s why they tapped Damson Idris, the UK-Nigerian star of Snowfall, for a Lagos-wide billboard campaign—recognizing the power of global stardom rooted in Nigerian pride. They didn’t just want a face. They wanted our face.

Damson Idris
Damson Idris,

In a time where everything feels fleeting and fast-paced, Hennessy remains a reminder that true greatness takes time. That legacy is built slowly, intentionally, and with cultural care. That relevance isn’t something you chase—it’s something you earn. And Hennessy has earned every lyric, every toast, every court, every concert. It’s more than just a cognac. It’s a mirror of Nigerian excellence.

Hennessy isn’t made for a moment. Just like Nigerians, It’s made for more, It’s made to last.

Kizz Daniel has confirmed in an official announcement that he now owns the masters of his debut album, 'New Era.'

Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel has officially announced that he now owns the master recordings for all the songs on his debut album 'New Era.'

The artist shared the news with fans via social media, marking a significant milestone in his career and a powerful statement on creative control and artistic independence.

Released in 2016 under the G-Worldwide label, 'New Era' became Kizz Daniel’s breakthrough project, housing timeless hits such as “Woju,” “Laye,” “Mama,” and “Good Time.”

The album established him as a leading voice in Nigerian pop music and played a pivotal role in shaping the contemporary Afrobeats sound.

However, the success of 'New Era' was later overshadowed by legal battles and contractual disputes with his former label over song rights and artistic freedom.

In 2017, Kizz Daniel parted ways with G-Worldwide, triggering a highly publicized legal battle over the rights to his stage name and his music catalog, particularly the New Era album.

The dispute led the artist to rebrand temporarily as “Kizz Daniel” after performing under “Kiss Daniel” during his time at the label.

Despite the legal constraints, he continued to thrive independently, founding his own imprint, Flyboy Inc. Now, after years of contention, Kizz Daniel has confirmed he has full ownership of the New Era masters, a major victory for both his legacy and future earnings.

Potential signings for Manchester United ahead of the 2025/26 season

As stakeholders count down to the 2025/26 summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United once again finds itself at a crossroads—rebuilding, restructuring, and reasserting its position among Europe’s elite.

With a new season on the horizon, Ruben Amorim will be looking to build a formidable team that can compete with the remaining clubs in the Premier League. The 2024/25 season will go down in history as one of the worst in the history of the Red Devils hence why they must bring in top players that will be able to return the team back to the top.

Transfer targets linked with Manchester United ahead of the 2025/26 campaign

(1) Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton)

One of the standout performers in Everton’s just concluded campaign, Branthwaite is being closely monitored by United. The 22-year-old Englishman possesses a strong aerial presence, composure on the ball, and Premier League experience which will be a good combination with Harry Maguire.

(2) Bryan Mbeumo ( Brentford)

The Cameroonian was one of the stand-out players in the Premier League in the just concluded 2024/25 season. Bryan Mbuemo was instrumental in helping Brentford finish in the top half of the table.

He scored 20 goals for the Bees which is a good return for a midfielder, his presence in United combined with Bruno Fernandes will be scary for other teams.

(3) Viktor Gyokeres ( Sporting Lisbon)

Viktor Gyokeres is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe following his impressive performance for Sporting Lisbon. The Swedish international is not a stranger to Ruben Amorim as they were both in Sporting at the start of this season.

Manchester United are already in talks with the forward player as they are looking at the possibility of bringing him to Old Trafford. Gyokeres scored 45 goals for Sporting across all competitions which is one of the reasons why the club will do their best to make him a Manchester United player.

Beyond the hype: The real challenge facing the 2025 Club World Cup

Fresh reports indicate that the 2025 Club World Cup is on the verge of being the worst edition of the tournament and here is why.

Despite high expectations due to the new format and rebranding of the FIFA Club World Cup ahead of the 2025 edition scheduled to take place in the US rising expectations and concerns have now emerged as the tournament is on the verge of becoming one of its worst editions till date.

Many might be wondering why this is a cause of concern but the fact remains that one of the biggest sporting events in club football history is set to have a very poor turn out.

According to the Athletic UK, the ticket sales for the tournament itself have been on the poor side with the opening day of the tournament struggling to surpass 25,000 tickets sold.

It was also revealed that tickets have taken a huge price slash to facilitate the sales of these tickets ahead of the event.

The Athletic in their publication revealed, "Unfortunately for FIFA, the paying public aren’t rushing to buy into it. Adam Crafton reports that the opening match, between Inter Miami and Egyptian team Al Ahly in Miami on June 14, is struggling to sell out. The game, likely to feature Lionel Messi (above), is nowhere near capacity, so ticket prices are being cut. Is a late rush coming? Or is the model created by Grafstom failing to land? Infantino has said previously he wasn’t “worried at all” about ticket sales, because the FIFA boss is a can-do sort. The world governing body insists fans from over 130 countries have purchased seats to date. Grafstrom told Felipe that the CWC should help football expand further in the States. It makes all the right noises, FIFA, but how much is it telling itself what it wants to hear?"

Security concerns for travellers has also raised a major concern ahead of the tournament. It remains to be seen if the issues raised now will not pose as a challenge for the tournament itself.

Rapper and rising star Doechii used her first-ever appearance at the 2025 BET Awards to make a bold political statement, directly addressing President Donald Trump and the ongoing social unrest in Los Angeles.

The Top Dawg Entertainment signee took the stage at the Peacock Theater in downtown LA on Monday night to accept the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist. In her acceptance speech at the BET Awards, Doechii didn’t shy away from the night’s charged atmosphere, criticizing what she described as "Trump’s ruthless attacks" and condemning the government’s actions masked as efforts to preserve "law and order."

Her speech came just hours after violent confrontations broke out between protesters and police near the award venue, tensions she directly acknowledged. Speaking with passion, Doechii highlighted the urgency of the moment, making it clear she would not ignore the unrest unfolding outside.

She concluded by expressing solidarity with Black, Latino, trans communities, and the people of Gaza, advocating for a world where no one has to live in fear. The rapper’s powerful remarks added a serious political edge to an otherwise celebratory night and are certain to be remembered as one of the evening’s defining moments.

Latest update on Mike Maignan's proposed transfer to Chelsea

Chelsea Football Club have decided to stop their proposed move to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The Blues were offered the France international and they valued him at between €10m (£8.46m) and €15m (£12.7m) ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. The proposed fee from Chelsea for the goalkeeper did not sit well with the hierarchy at AC Milan who are looking to bring in a replacement for Robert Sanchez.

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his official social media account that the deal is off. According to him, both clubs are not able to reach an agreement fo the French international.

He said,

"Mike Maignan deal now OFF between Chelsea and AC Milan. Chelsea not willing to meet Milan price, deal not proceeding in time for Club World Cup as #CFC won’t pay ‘CWC tax."

Chelsea already have five goalkeepers on their books Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders and Kepa Arrizabalaga but they are now unlikely to sign a 'keeper this summer with Mike Maignan deal not seeing the light of day.

However, there is a possibility that Chelsea return to the deal when the window opens again in July 2025 before the end of the club world cup.
