The Cinderella story of Crystal Palace booking their spot in the 2025/26 Europa League campaign and winning their first-ever FA Cup trophy could be having a sad ending before the new season begins.
Crystal Palace earned a spot in the Europa League by winning the FA Cup in May 2025 which sent their supporters into seventh heaven. This is a big deal for a club that’s never qualified for European competitions in recent seasons.
There are reports that Palace could be kicked out of the competition before the start of the 2025/26 season due to sharing ownership of two different clubs in the same competition.
Why will UEFA kick out Crystal Palace from the Europa League?
UEFA has strict rules about multi-club ownership, a football club can’t have the same person owning or influencing multiple teams in the same competition. John Textor, who owns 43% of Palace, also owns Lyon, a French club in the Europa League next season which is not acceptable by UEFA.
Textor and another co-owner, David Blitzer, have tried to get around this by putting their Palace shares into a "blind trust" basically handing control to trustees so they’re not directly involved. However, this was not accepted by the body because the deadline date of changing ownership is expected to be submitted by March 1 of every year. Other clubs like Manchester City and United pulled this blind trust trick last season with their partner clubs and got away with it, but they did it on time.
What is next for Crystal Palace?
Textor has been trying to sell his stake in Palace to fix the issue, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening fast enough either. If they can’t resolve this, Palace might get banned from Europe entirely, which would be a gut punch after their FA Cup win. This gives a chance to Nottingham Forest who could sneak into the Europa League if Palace gets the kicked out. The other twist is that they might not even get Conference League because Blitzer owns a chunk of Brondby, a Danish club in the Conference League, so even dropping down to that competition might not be an option for the Eagles.
Crystal Palace will have to keep their fingers crossed to wait for the final verdict of UEFA which will most likely happen before July 2025.
Veteran Igbo folklore singer and cultural icon, Mike Ejeagha, has died at the age of 95.
The sad news was confirmed by his eldest son, Emma Ejeagha, who revealed that the legendary musician, Mike Ejeagha died around 8 p.m. at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, after battling a prolonged illness. However, details of the ailment were not disclosed to the public.
Mike Ejeagha, known for his masterful blend of traditional Igbo proverbs and highlife melodies, left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s music and cultural scene. For decades, he used his songs as a medium to promote Igbo heritage, earning widespread admiration and reverence for his contributions.
In 2024, the folklore maestro experienced a resurgence in popularity when popular skit maker, Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie, popularly known as Brain Jotter, launched a viral dance challenge inspired by Ejeagha’s 1983 classic, Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo. The challenge captured the attention of fans across the globe, propelling the song to number 95 on the Spotify Nigeria chart, more than 40 years after its original release.
The renewed interest in his work attracted goodwill from admirers and public figures alike. Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, paid a visit to Ejeagha and honoured him by renaming a road after him. Brain Jotter and other well-meaning Nigerians also offered financial support to the ailing music legend.
Born in Imezi Owa, Enugu State, Mike Ejeagha’s journey in music began in his youth, playing the ogene (traditional gong) alongside a childhood friend. He later joined the Coal Camp Boys music troupe and worked as a guitarist for renowned artist Joseph Ogbu before forming his own band.
His talent earned him a spot at the Nigerian Broadcasting Service, where he hosted Guitar Playtime, a radio programme that further showcased his artistry. Balancing broadcasting and music, Ejeagha became a household name and a beloved custodian of Igbo folklore.
As news of his passing spreads, tributes have continued to pour in from fans, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts who celebrate his life, legacy, and lasting impact on Nigerian music history.

Spalletti confirmed the news conference on Sunday, June 8 2025 ahead of Italy’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova. The result of the opening game against Norway did not sit well with the top hierarchy of the Italian FA.
This result means that it is very unlikely that Italy will finish top of their group, causing them to go through a probable playoff to avoid missing a third straight World Cup.
Spalleti said,
"Last night we were together with president [Gabriele] Gravina. He told me that I would be relieved of my position as coach of the national team. I had no intention of giving up. I would have preferred to stay in my place and continue doing my job. I will be there [on Monday] evening against Moldova, then we'll resolve the contract."
Spalletti was appointed as Italy manager in August 2023 following the resignation of Euro 2020-winning manager Roberto Mancini. There were high expectations for Spalletti as he was coming off the back to leading Napoli to a first Scudetto in 33 years in the 2022-23 season.

Embrace the power of words and music with the heartfelt lyrics of Dax's Lonely Dirt Road.
Dax - Lonely Dirt Road Lyrics
Chorus When I need space, that's where I go A place to escape that nobody knows Where I feel free to let things go And face this evil that burdens my soul I bring my hatred, I pack my pain All the emotions I cannot explain It's where I found God and filled that hole It's He, myself, and I on that lonely dirt road
Verse 1 I needed somewhere to take my mistakes I didn't want my family to see me cry They'll never know I'm carrying all of this weight Dealing with the pressure of tryna provide No sign of struggle can show on my face They ask if I'm okay, I just flash them a smile Fire up that engine to take me away I'm speeding through emotions with every mile
Verse 2 On that road is where I find my peace I remember Daddy told me 'bout some times like these On that road is where my mind's at ease I keep driving life away, rejecting change, so
Chorus When I need space, that's where I go That's where I A place to escape that nobody knows Where I feel free to let things go I let things go And face this evil that burdens my soul Bury my soul I bring my hatred, I pack my pain I pack my pain All the emotions I cannot explain I cannot explain its going It's where I found God and filled that hole I filled that hole It's He, myself, and I on that lonely dirt road
Verse 3 I tried my best to plant the seeds, and then I watered everything that was in my life But as a man, the only flowers that you get are when you're six-feet under on the day you die I think I feel the pain my father felt, it's finally sinking in, looking back, all I see is his eyes He said that house is not a home unless you build it on respect, with some kids and a loving wife
Verse 4 If these walls could talk, I bet they'd say it's all my fault That I don't try hard That I ain't man enough, that I ain't standing up That I just burn everything that my hands touch, oh If these walls could talk, I bet they'd say I'm to blame That I'm the one who put myself inside of all of these chains That my addictive personality's what ran them away And that I hurt myself by staying quiet and not explaIning I'm broken in places I can't even see I know there's gotta be a Heaven 'cause the hell that's in me Is taking a dangerous toll that I'm paying with all of my soul

In front of a roaring crowd, Rema invited D’banj on stage, celebrating the iconic artist for paving the way for a new generation of Nigerian musicians. The Calm Down hitmaker acknowledged D’banj’s pivotal role in pushing Afrobeats beyond African shores, particularly to the UK audience.
Rema specifically referenced D’banj’s 2012 hit Oliver Twist, which made history as the first Nigerian song to crack the UK’s official top 10 chart, a landmark achievement that opened international doors for Afrobeats artists.
“You were one of the first ones to bring Afrobeats to the UK. You and Don Jazzy held it down. Y’all opened that door,” Rema told D’banj on stage, his voice filled with emotion.
He continued with a moving declaration of gratitude, saying, “I appreciate you for life. I love you from the bottom of my heart. If you never existed, I would have never existed.”
In a fitting gesture to cap the memorable moment, D’banj did the honours of presenting Rema with The O2’s commemorative plaque for headlining the prestigious arena for the second time in his career. This shows Rema’s growing influence on the global stage.
The crowd erupted in applause as the two stars embraced, marking a powerful generational moment for Nigerian music.
